Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  A seaside city on the south coast of the island.

Here, 10% of children complete the education necessary to receive a high school diploma.

Here, the lack of good education propetuates the cycle of poverty and broken families.

And here, in the middle of a community affected by drug use, gang activity, and crime, is the Kids Alive Miancerg school.

The Miancerg School is a part of Kids Alive's ministry in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Margaret and Juan started the school in their house to meet the need they saw for education for the kids in their neighborhood.  Now they have their own building, the second story of which was completed this year.  139 kids in grades one through six attend the school.

The children at this school are able to attend because their educational costs are funded by sponsors.  Right now the kids at the Santo Domingo school are in need of more sponsors.

How does sponsorship work?

The Kids Alive staff has brought in kids to this school that have the greatest need.  They are given this amazing, transformative opportunity to receive a Christ-centered education and care from educators who truly love them.  The money given through sponsorship pays for school uniforms, school meals, teacher salaries, books, and other school fees.

Each child at the Santo Domingo school needs three sponsors. Each sponsor gives $40 a month towards these educational costs. That adds to $480 a year.  Taylor groups can easily split up the year payment into two payments of $240 each semester.  JOY will collect sponsor payments every semester and send them to Kids Alive.
