About

JOY is a nonprofit organization founded by college students at Miami University.  The vision of JOY is to build relationships between university communities and ministries working with vulnerable children in schools and orphanages.

JOY is designed to have chapters at different universities.  The Taylor chapter of JOY partners with Kids Alive International to connect with  a school in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  Our relationship with the Santo Domingo school will grow through sponsorship, fundraising, and trips to visit the school.

Less than 10% of Dominicans graduate from high school. Because these kids attend a Kids Alive school, they have an amazing opportunity to have a future filled with hope. The education of these children is funded by child sponsors. We dream of Taylor University playing a part in providing education for these kids.  We dream of Taylor University sponsoring the Santo Domingo kids.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
WHAT IS JOY?
OUR SPONSORSHIP VISION

It costs $40 a month to sponsor one of these kids.  One group of students-- an athletic team, a floor of guys, a wing of girls-- takes on that cost together.  Payments will be collected once a semester.  The sponsor group can write notes to their kid, send them pictures, and see the progress of their kid throughout the year.  We plan to take trips to the DR to visit the Santo Domingo school to further these relationships.  Join the vision to see JOY spread across Taylor University.

THINGS WE'VE DONE

Last year, the JOY Coffeehouse first introduced JOY to Taylor University & launched the sponsorship program.

In the fall, a business management class held a JOY event as a class project.  Many students came & wrote letters to kids at the Santo Domingo school.
